Dongshi Fort is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Era: Qing Dynasty

Location: Baisha Village, Dongshi Town, Jinjiang City

Introduction: Dongshi Fort was where Zheng Chenggong trained and drilled his troops in the early Qing Dynasty. Nestled against the mountain and facing the sea, the fort has a rectangular layout. The surviving stone walls are over 30 meters long; the two fortress gates were built in the 16th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1677)—the eastern “Victory Gate” and the western “Sea-Suppressing Gate.” The fort also houses a water drill platform where Zheng Chenggong trained his naval forces, covering an area of more than 1,300 square meters.

The associated cultural relic, the Baisha City Ruins, is located opposite Dongshi Fort and consists of the “Guoxing City” and “Tiger Ear Harbor.” In the 12th year of the Shunzhi reign (1655), fierce battles took place here between Zheng’s army and Qing forces. Remnants such as sections of the Baisha City wall, the Guoxing Well, and the Horse Trough remain today, and weapons such as blades, halberds, and cannons have been frequently unearthed.

Protected Area: Dongshi Fort – 25 meters eastward from the eastern face of the fort, 20 meters westward from the western face, 10 meters outward from the southern gate, and 40 meters northward;

Baisha City Ruins – east to Baisha Village, west, south, and north to the sea.

Baisha Village: Located at the southern end of Dongshi Town, Baisha Village faces Kinmen across the sea. It holds a strategically important location and historically served as a military post where the national hero Zheng Chenggong stationed and trained his navy.

Baisha Village currently has 901 households, with a total population of 3,032 and covers an area of 1.8 square kilometers, including 5,000 mu of tidal flats. The village is divided into eight districts. The main economic activities of the villagers revolve around marine aquaculture—such as growing laver, harvesting clams, and small-scale sea fishing. There are 13 enterprises in the village. In 2009, the village’s total economic output was approximately 120 million yuan, with an average per capita income of 10,496 yuan.
