The Changshun Architectural Complex

The Changshun Architectural Complex is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Changshun Architectural Complex is located in Nanxun Village, Longhu Town, Jinjiang City, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: “Changshun” was the business name of Shi Zhishan, a local resident during the Qing Dynasty, who operated in Lukang, Taiwan. After achieving success in trade, he returned to his hometown in the eighth year of the Guangxu reign (1882) during the Qing Dynasty to build this complex. It consists of four parts: the main residence, the ancestral hall, the pawnshop, and the Tongying Study, covering a construction area of 2,500 square meters. The site includes a pond and canals connected to the sea, allowing small boats to deliver goods right to the stone courtyard in front of the residence. The main residence comprises a front hall, the central hall, a rear building, and a right-side wing. The central hall is five bays wide and five columns deep, featuring a post-and-lintel beam frame and a flush gable roof. The ancestral hall consists of a front hall, a central hall, and a right-side wing. The central hall is five bays wide and five columns deep, also featuring a post-and-lintel beam frame and a flush gable roof. The pawnshop is made up of a front hall and a central hall, with the central hall being five bays wide and six columns deep, using a post-and-lintel beam frame and a flush gable roof. The Tongying Study has a flower garden at the front, is three bays wide and one bay deep, with load-bearing walls for the rafters and a flush gable roof. This architectural complex stands as a testament to the commercial exchanges between Quanzhou and Taiwan.

In 2013, the Changshun Architectural Complex was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Nanxun Village: Nanxun Village is a revolutionary base village in Jinjiang City, Quanzhou, Fujian Province. It is located in the Yankou Tourist Resort area on the eastern coast of Longhu Town and is part of the beautiful “Eighteen Scenic Spots of Quanzhou,” including the Shenhu Bay. Provincial Highway 308 runs along the western side of the village, which is over 20 kilometers from downtown Jinjiang. The government office is located at Jiakou in Yankou.

　In ancient times, Nanxun was under the jurisdiction of Xiangge Li in Jinjiang County. During the Yuan Dynasty, it belonged to the 17th and 18th districts. The Ming and Qing dynasties continued the old administrative divisions. During the Republic of China period, Nanxun established Xiapo Town. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the democratic administration renamed Xiapo Town to Yankou Town.
