Shigu Temple Village Covenant Stele

The Shigu Temple Village Covenant Stele is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The Shigu Temple Village Covenant Stele is located in the Xianxian Ancestral Hall of Shigu Temple in Qingyang, Qingling Subdistrict, Meilin Street, Jinjiang City, and dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

Description: Erected in the 16th year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1588). Made of granite, it stands 2.62 meters tall and 0.91 meters wide, with the seal-style title “Record of the Qingyang Village Covenant” measuring 0.11 meters in character size. The stele features 21 vertical lines of regular script totaling 965 characters, with each character measuring 0.04 meters. It documents the process by which local resident Zhuang Yongbin established the village covenant and reformed local customs, and was composed by Hong Fu, the governor of Sichuan.

In 2013, the Shigu Temple Village Covenant Stele was announced by the People’s Government of Fujian Province as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.

Meiling Subdistrict: Meiling Subdistrict is located in the northern part of Jinjiang City. It borders Chendai Town to the east, Chidian Town to the north, Xiyuan Subdistrict to the west, and Qingyang Subdistrict to the south. The subdistrict got its name from being situated at the junction of Qingmei Mountain and Ling Mountain. The terrain slopes slightly from west to east and is relatively flat. The jurisdiction covers an area of about 11 square kilometers, with 14 communities and 28 natural villages, a registered population of 31,693, and a non-native floating population of over 20,000. [1] The subdistrict office is located in Guishan.
