Battlefield Tunnels

The Battlefield Tunnels are a cultural relic protection unit of Jinjiang City.

The Battlefield Tunnels are located in Weitou Village, Jinjing Town. Dating back to 1958, they are classified as an important modern historical site and representative structure.

The Battlefield Tunnels are significant remnants of the August 23rd Artillery Battle. Built underground, the surviving tunnel sections connect four artillery emplacements, with a total length of over 500 meters, about 1 meter wide and 1.8 meters high. The tunnels include facilities such as a command post, ammunition storage, shelters, and hidden rooms. The walls and entrances of the tunnels are constructed from granite, with the upper sections reinforced with poured concrete and then covered with thick soil and dense vegetation as camouflage.

On September 8, 2019, the Battlefield Tunnels were designated as part of the sixth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units in Jinjiang City.

Protected area: An additional 20 meters beyond the entrances and the upper ground surface of the tunnel walls.

Weitou Village: Located at the southernmost tip of Weitou Peninsula on the southeast coast of China’s maritime economic zone in Fujian Province, Weitou covers a scenic area of 3 square kilometers with a coastline stretching 6,500 meters. The village is home to over 10,000 overseas and local compatriots, has a permanent population of more than 4,000, and hosts around 3,000 migrant workers. To the east lies the Taiwan Strait, and to the west is the beautiful Weitou Bay. It is just 5.6 (or 4.7) nautical miles from Greater Kinmen Island to the south, making it the mainland fishing village closest to Greater Kinmen.
