Fulin Chunhui Building

Fulin Chunhui Building is a cultural relic protection unit of Jinjiang City.

Fulin Chunhui Building is located at No. 104, West Zone, Fulin Village, Longhu Town. It dates back to the Republican era and is classified as a representative modern-era building.

Built in the 1920s, Fulin Chunhui Building was the home of Xu Youchao, an overseas Chinese from the Philippines. It is a two-story Western-style building with a double-protruding turtle-back design, facing south, and constructed with reinforced concrete. The outer walls are made of red bricks and stones. The lintel above the first-floor entrance is inscribed with “恒忍居安” (Perseverance Brings Peace), while the second-floor entrance bears the inscription “孝友为端” (Filial Piety and Friendship as Foundation). The sides of the gate feature exquisite stone carvings. The sun terrace is adorned with cut porcelain inlay featuring the name “Chunhui Building” (Spring Sunshine Building), flanked by floral designs. Xu Youchao, a native of Fulin Village, Longhu, Jinjiang, was the first mayor of Xiamen and a renowned leader of the overseas Chinese community.

On February 5, 2013, Fulin Chunhui Building was designated as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units in Jinjiang City.

Fulin Village: Located in the western part of Longhu Town, Fulin Village comprises two natural villages—Tanlin and Niancuibu—with a population of 2,657. During the Yuan and Ming dynasties, it belonged to the 17th and 18th districts of Jinjiang County. It was originally named “Chenlin” (Chen Forest) after the Chen family, who were the first to settle in the mountainous area. It was also called Tanlin due to the abundance of tan trees. Additionally, the village was once the retreat site of the Buddhist Master Hongyi at Fulin Temple, which has since been renamed, giving the village its current name. The majority of residents have the surname Xu, followed by Chen. Niancuibu is entirely inhabited by the Nian clan, who are of Manchu ethnicity, originally from the ancient Jurchen people.
