The former residence of Xu Li, a leader of the overseas Chinese labor movement, is located at No. 32, Changsheng Road, Shigui Village, Longhu Town, Jinjiang City.

Xu Li (1905–1971) was from Shigui Village, Longhu Town, Jinjiang City, Fujian Province. In 1925, he moved to the Philippines and became involved in the labor movements of overseas Chinese in the Philippines and Indonesia. He joined the Communist Youth League in 1926 and helped organize the General Union of Overseas Chinese Workers in the Philippines. In 1929, he attended the Pan-Pacific Labor Conference in Shanghai. In April 1930, he went to Moscow to attend the Fifth Congress of the Profintern (Red International of Labor Unions), and in November of the same year, he became a member of the Communist Party. In September 1933, he was expelled by the Dutch Indonesian authorities and returned to his hometown to carry out revolutionary activities, serving as Secretary of the Yongning District Committee of the CPC in Shishi. In 1935, he returned to the Philippines and served as Chairman of the Philippine Anti-Japanese and Anti-Traitor Alliance. He founded anti-Japanese publications, mobilized overseas Chinese to donate money and supplies, and organized multiple contingents of overseas Chinese volunteer army units and comfort delegations to return to China to join the war effort. In March 1942, he established the Philippine Overseas Chinese Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Detachment, earning remarkable merit during the war. In 1946, he returned to China again and held positions such as Overseas Chinese Affairs Commissioner of the South China Branch of the CPC Central Committee and Deputy Director of Department II of the CPC Central Committee’s United Front Work Department. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as Deputy Minister of the Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee, member of the National Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission, and other roles. He passed away in Beijing in August 1971.

The former residence covers an area of approximately 415 square meters. With a history of over 100 years, it is a brick-and-wood structure traditional Southern Fujian house consisting of a front courtyard, bilateral corridors, front and rear halls, and 12 rooms in a five-bay layout. Currently, the building’s façade is relatively well-preserved, but the interior is largely damaged and unoccupied.
