Putian Eagle Peak Provincial Nature Reserve is located within Dayang Township and Xin County Town in Hanjiang District, Putian City, situated in the northeastern part of Putian. It stretches from the boundary with Fuqing City in the east to the boundary with Zhuangbian Town in the west, reaches the northern part of Xin County Town in the south, and adjoins the boundaries of Yongtai County and Fuqing City in the north. The geographical coordinates are between 118°58′13″ to 119°8′52″ east longitude and 25°40′10″ to 25°45′28″ north latitude. The administrative area covers two towns—Dayang Township and Xin County Town—encompassing 10 administrative villages. The total area is 2,830.9 hectares, including a core zone of 821.2 hectares, a buffer zone of 591.6 hectares, and an experimental zone of 1,418.1 hectares.

The nature reserve is situated in the mid-low mountainous and hilly terrain of the northeastern section of the Daiyun Mountain Range, featuring a South Asian tropical monsoon climate. The highest point is Weiping Mountain at an elevation of 1,025 meters, while the lowest is the Sancengji Hydropower Station in Xiayang Village at 45 meters, resulting in an elevation difference of 980 meters, with most areas over 300 meters above sea level. The ecological types are complex and diverse, nurturing and preserving distinctive wildlife resources. There are 983 species of vascular plants from 554 genera and 178 families, 232 species of wild vertebrates from 80 families and 33 orders, 134 species of insects from 93 families and 14 orders, and 95 species of macrofungi from 22 families. The main vegetation types in the reserve include coniferous forest, evergreen broad-leaved forest, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest, bamboo forest, shrub-grassland, and economic forest—totaling six vegetation types, 23 formations, and 25 associations. The most typical are forests of Castanopsis carlesii, Castanopsis fargesii, and Eurycorymbus cavaleriei. The forest coverage rate reaches 87.2%.
