Huanggang Ancestral Temple is located on the west side of Huangxiangpo along the Wutang Highway in Hanjiang. This is a memorial temple dedicated to Huang An. The entrance gate is a granite structure in the style of four pillars and three stories, topped with yellow glazed tiles. Within the courtyard are stone horses and stone sheep... The stele wall is inlaid with more than ten stone tablets from various dynasties dating back to the Tang Dynasty, serving as authentic records of the history of Huangxiang. In front of the courtyard lies a deep ancient well dating back a thousand years. It is said that the well was dug after the eminent monk Miaoying, who was 70 years old and an expert in geomancy, personally surveyed and determined the location. The main hall of Huanggang Ancestral Temple is three bays wide and has two courtyards, with the entrance hall and the main hall separated by a courtyard. Due to the spaciousness of the courtyard and the open design of the main hall, the temple appears bright and airy. The beams inside the temple are adorned with dazzling golden plaques, and the pillars are inscribed with numerous couplets. On the shrine in the main hall hang portraits of historically accomplished figures from the Huang family, ranging from the Tang to the Ming Dynasties. These include Huang An, the founding ancestor of the Huangs in Putian; Huang Tao, known as the “Founding Father of Literature in Central Fujian”; Huang Pu, a renowned Confucian scholar; Huang Yong, a prime minister; Huang Gongdu, a top imperial examination scholar; Huang Zhongzhao, a historian; and Huang Gong, an upright official. On the altar table, there are also two gilded statues: those of the eminent Tang Dynasty monks Miaoying and Benji.

Huang An (674–756), courtesy name Zongji, also known as Kuijie, was the son of the early Tang hermit Huang Chong and the eleventh-generation direct descendant of Huang Yuanfang (courtesy name Yanfeng), the founding ancestor of the Huangs in Fujian. (Huang Yuanfang was among the Eight Surnames of Aristocrats who migrated to Fujian, having followed Emperor Yuan of Jin southward and eventually settled in Huangxiang, Houguan, Fuzhou—present-day south of Dongjiekou in Huangxiang. He was also the 101st-generation descendant of the Yellow Emperor.)

In the year of Shenglì Xuwu during the Tang Dynasty, he passed the imperial examination due to his talent and virtue, holding positions such as Academician of the Hanlin History Office, Prefect of Xuzhou, and later promoted to Governor of Guizhou in Guangxi.
