Former Site of Aobing Palace Revolutionary Base

The former site of Aobing Palace Revolutionary Base is a cultural heritage site protected by Fujian Province and a classic destination on China’s red tourism trail.

The former site of Aobing Palace Revolutionary Base is located in Qiaotou Natural Village, Aodong Village, Baisha Town. Originally built in the 29th year of the Shaoxing era during the Song Dynasty (1159) and reconstructed in the Qing Dynasty, it covers a construction area of 641 square meters. The drum-shaped stone supports and column bases feature exquisite carvings. In 1929, the 207th Regiment of the 23rd Red Army was established here, and the left gable wall still retains a hand-painted slogan from the revolutionary period: “Capture Chiang Kai-shek, the bandit leader!” As such, this palace is also considered a revolutionary relic. In 2009, the former site of Aobing Palace Revolutionary Base was designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Fujian Province.

Time Period: 1926–1937

Location: Aodong Village, Baisha Town, Hanjiang District, Putian City

Introduction: The site includes Aobing Palace, Aobing Bridge, Lenin Primary School, Xinglong Altar, and Lingying Altar. Aobing Palace was reconstructed in the Qing Dynasty and is a temple dedicated to the “ancestor” who built Aobing Bridge. Major revolutionary events that took place here include: the establishment of a farmers’ association and the first Party branch in the mountainous region of Putian in 1926, the formation of Putian’s first workers’ and peasants’ guerrilla unit in 1928, the expansion of the guerrilla unit into the 207th Regiment of the 8th Division of the 23rd Red Army in 1929, and a cadre expansion meeting held here in 1930 by Deng Zihui and Zhang Dingcheng. Aobing Bridge is a flat-beam stone bridge built in the 13th year of the Shaoxing era during the Southern Song Dynasty (1143), serving as an important checkpoint for the Red Army and guerrilla forces. Lenin Primary School was the first school established by the Red Army in central Fujian. Xinglong Altar and Lingying Altar were key strongholds for Red Army and guerrilla activities.

Protected Area: Aobing Palace — East to the small road outside the palace wall, west to the stream, south to the palace courtyard, north to the mountain land outside the palace wall.

Aobing Bridge — Extending 20 meters upstream and downstream of the bridge, and 10 meters on both banks.

Lenin Primary School — Extending 15 meters outside the surrounding walls.

Xinglong Altar and Lingying Altar — Extending 15 meters outward in all directions.
