The Former Site of the Red Army Trenches in Ningli is located in Ningli Natural Village, Fengji Village, Zhuangbian Town, Hanjiang District, Putian City.

In late October 1936, the Red Army guerrilla forces of central Fujian moved from Shanjie in Zhuangbian to Ningli for concealment and decided to establish Ningli as a solid guerrilla base. To resist the “encirclement and suppression” by the Kuomintang army and defend Ningli, Political Commissar Liu Tujun led the guerrillas to construct a trench on the high ground at the back of Ningli Mountain as an important military facility. After the victory of the War of Resistance, central Fujian became the center for the Fujian Provincial Committee to lead the anti-Japanese and anti-puppet struggles. Especially due to the spillover effects of incidents in Sua’ao, Dongwu, and Keren, it became a key target of the Kuomintang authorities’ “cleansing” campaigns. They deployed large numbers of troops to carry out indiscriminate arrests and killings across central Fujian. Ningli, from which the central Fujian Party organization and guerrilla forces had already withdrawn in early 1941, was also subjected to a full-scale “cleansing” by the diehard faction of the Kuomintang. In October 1945, Hu Jikuan led a security regiment of over 200 men to build bunkers and set up artillery positions on the Red Army trenches, where they arrested and killed revolutionary masses.
