Former Site of the Red Army Cave in Shancreek

The former site of the Red Army Cave in Shancreek is located by the Zhai’an Stream in Xiati Natural Village, Shancreek Village, Zhuangbian Town, Hanjiang District, Putian City.

In September 1936, Wang Yujie and Liu Tujun led the Central Fujian Guerrilla Unit through Zhuangbian’s Chishi, Chixi, and Kengtouli to Shancreek Village, where they stayed in the Zhai’an Rock Cave at the entrance of Shancreek. After the Red Army guerrillas moved into the Zhai’an Rock Cave, Huang Guozhang, who was responsible for establishing a new base in Shancreek, decided to negotiate with Huang Kaiyuan, the bandit leader entrenched in Shancreek Fort, in order to secure a passage for the guerrillas to enter the fort. Initially, Huang Kaiyuan refused. However, upon learning that the guerrillas had already arrived right under his nose and seeing Huang Guozhang’s firm stance, he had no choice but to agree to the guerrillas’ request to enter Shancreek Fort. The two sides reached a “non-aggression” agreement. Soon after, the guerrillas withdrew from the Zhai’an Rock Cave and moved into Shancreek Fort for rest and reorganization.

The Zhai’an Rock Cave at the former site of the Red Army Cave in Shancreek, also known as the Immortal Cave, has a flat stone floor and a spacious interior arranged on two levels, capable of accommodating over a hundred people. The cave still preserves relics such as horse troughs and stone mortars. The cave entrance is overgrown with weeds, and in front of it flows a small stream. A 1.5-kilometer mountain path leads to the Red Army Cave.
