Former Site of the Kai Fu Temple Liaison Station

The former site of the Kai Fu Temple Liaison Station is a cultural relic protection unit of Putian City and a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the Kai Fu Temple Liaison Station is located in Dingge Natural Village, Qishan Village, Zhuangbian Town, Hanjiang District, Putian City.

Kai Fu Temple is located at the junction of Putian, Xianyou, and Yongtai, making it easily accessible and conducive to the activities of the Central Fujian Guerrilla Unit. From 1931 until the eve of liberation, it served as a secret meeting place and an important liaison station for the Central Fujian Red Army Guerrilla Unit. In 1931, comrades such as Chen Jianxin promoted the Party’s policies to the then abbot of the temple, Master Qiongzhang, gaining his support for the underground party organization to use the site as a base for revolutionary work. They mobilized peasants to form peasant associations and carried out struggles against taxes, levies, and rents. On the eve of liberation, Huang Guozhang, Yi De, along with Hu Wenjiao, Lin Lian, and Hu Maotang from the village, prepared leaflets to be distributed and revolutionary slogans to be posted by the guerrillas inside the temple.

Kai Fu Temple was originally built in the early Tang Dynasty and was initially named Jiuzuo Temple, covering an area of over 10 acres with nearly a thousand monks. It was rebuilt in the second year of the Baoyou era during the Southern Song Dynasty (1254 AD), but was destroyed by war during the Yuan Dynasty, leaving only ruins. It was not until the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, in the year Yimou, that it was reconstructed on the original site, with a construction area of 720 square meters. Existing relics include stone plaques, horse troughs, ancient bells, and inscribed boards.

The former site of the Kai Fu Temple Liaison Station was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Putian County by the Putian County People's Government in December 1997, and as a cultural relic protection unit of Putian City by the Putian Municipal People's Government in October 2004.
