Former Site of the Military Meeting at Yuantong Temple in Dongquan
The former site of the military meeting at Yuantong Temple in Dongquan is a classic red tourism attraction.
The former site of the military meeting at Yuantong Temple in Dongquan is located in Xinan Natural Village, Dongquan Village, Baisha Town, Hanjiang District, Putian City.
In March 1930, the CPC Putian County Committee successively launched the Beigao and Huangshi uprisings as well as the Jiangkou arms seizure operation, achieving victories in armed struggle and expanding the political influence of the Communist Party. To strengthen the development of the armed forces, in April of the same year, Chen Tianzhang, Chen Zhaofang, and others decided to bring the guerrilla forces from the Jiangkou and coastal uprisings to join the Guangye Peasant Self-Defense Corps led by Wang Jixiu in Dongquan, Guangye. A military meeting was held at Yuantong Temple in Dongquan, where it was decided to establish bases in Aobing, Dongdu, and Jiajie, mobilize the masses, organize peasant associations, expand the armed forces, and gradually expand into the entire Guangye mountainous area to create a red zone in Guangye. In June, Luo Ming, Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, visited Putian on inspection and decided to dispatch military cadre Huang Wan to Putian to oversee military work. According to the unified deployment of the Putian General Committee, in mid-August, Huang Wan, Chen Tianzhang, Wang Jixiu, and others held another military meeting at Yuantong Temple in Dongquan, announcing the establishment of the 207th Regiment of the 23rd Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. Huang Wan was appointed as the regimental commander, and over 50 people were the first to enlist in the Red Army. It was also decided to establish Red Guards in qualified villages such as Aobing and Dongquan to support the Red Army in carrying out the land revolution struggle.
The former site of the military meeting at Yuantong Temple in Dongquan is also the birthplace of the 207th Regiment of the Putian Red Army, commonly known as Honghou Temple. Its founding date is unverifiable, but it was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. The temple enshrined Sakyamuni Buddha and others, covering an area of over 500 square meters. It was demolished after liberation and rebuilt as a government grain storage facility. There were two grain storage buildings, each with a cement tile roof and a cylindrical main structure constructed from granite strips, with a diameter of about 8 meters, a height of about 6 meters, and each occupying an area of about 50 square meters. They are now part of the Hanjiang District grain storage facilities.
