Baisha Red Army Ridge

Baisha Red Army Ridge is a classic red tourism destination.

Baisha Red Army Ridge is located at the southern end of Aobing Bridge in Aodong Village, Baisha Town, Hanjiang District, Putian City.

In ancient times, to travel from Putian County to the mountainous regions of Guangye as well as to Xianyou and Yongtai counties, one had to pass through Aobing Bridge and Aobing Ridge. This made a stone-paved path over 20 li long that ran along Aobing Ridge an important thoroughfare between the plains and the mountainous areas. At the highest point of Aobing Ridge, there used to be a stone house where Fan Shaojing, the leader of the Guangye Militia, set up a checkpoint to extort money from passersby. In April 1930, after the military meeting at Dongquan Yuantong Temple, Chen Tianzhang and others led guerrilla forces to eliminate the militia outpost on Aobing Ridge, seizing 20 rifles and one pistol. This not only rid the people of a scourge but also removed a threat to the security of the revolutionary base. Because Aobing Ridge was a place where underground CPC members and Red Army guerrillas in central Fujian were frequently active, it came to be known as Red Army Ridge.

Baisha Red Army Ridge sits at an altitude of over 450 meters. The stone path on the ridge is about 450 meters long and well preserved. Together with Aobing Bridge and Aobing Palace, it forms an important site for red tourism.
