The former site of the Xuanzhongling Battle is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the Xuanzhongling Battle is located in Xifu Natural Village, Yao Mountain Village, Dayang Township, Hanjiang District, Putian City.

On July 28, 1949, the Kuomintang army organized a “mopping-up” operation in Dayang, attempting to annihilate the headquarters of the Central Fujian Detachment. Upon receiving intelligence, the leaders of the Central Fujian Detachment headquarters, together with the leaders of the People's Liberation Army advance team, jointly studied and determined a counter-“mopping-up” battle plan. The plan involved deploying one platoon of guerrillas along with one PLA squad to defend Baizhang Ridge, blocking enemy forces advancing from the east; two squads of guerrillas and one PLA squad were stationed at Nanling, the northern barrier of Dayang, to prevent enemy forces from breaking through and ensure rear security; one squad of guerrillas and one PLA squad were positioned at Shiba Taji to resist enemies coming from Xianyou in the west; one platoon of guerrillas and one PLA squad were lying in ambush at Xuanzhongling to engage enemy forces attacking from the front in Putian. The work team of the Central Fujian Working Committee, together with the Dayang District Committee, was responsible for organizing the evacuation of civilians and providing logistical support. On July 29, the counter-“mopping-up” battle began. The PLA advance team and guerrilla forces took up advantageous positions on Xuanzhongling in the south and engaged head-on with an enemy force of over 1,500 troops, which was a makeshift coalition composed of the Putian Self-Defense Force, the Hanjiang Traffic Police Unit, and Chen Weijin’s “Zijian Team” from Jiangkou. They fought fiercely until the afternoon of July 31 before voluntarily withdrawing. In the evening, enemy forces from Fuqing and Putian simultaneously encircled Dayang. Outnumbered, the PLA used 60mm mortars at Dukou to shell enemies on both sides, covering their retreat from the position before withdrawing to the mountains along the Putian–Yongtai border. As the main PLA forces had already advanced close to the suburbs of Fuzhou, the enemy forces that had “mopped up” Dayang occupied the area for one night, looted and set fires extensively the next morning, and then hastily withdrew.

The former site of the Xuanzhongling Battle is located at the foot of Hutou Mountain, west of Yao Mountain Village. It has now been turned into a small pond used for agricultural irrigation.
