Fengyang Ming Ancient Tower is the largest drum tower in China. Its structure and orientation differ from those of other drum towers. Generally, most drum towers are oriented north-south, but the Fengyang Drum Tower faces east-west. The drum tower consists of two parts: the base platform and the tower building. In the center of the base platform are three gateways, with the central one slightly larger. Above the central gateway, there are four bold, regular-script Chinese characters “万世根本” (Eternal Foundation), personally inscribed by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang.
