Fengyang County Museum

Fengyang County Museum is located to the east of the county library. To the north are the People’s Square and the government office building, while to the east and south it faces, respectively, the Ming Zhongdu Imperial City ruins and the Ming Zhongdu Bell Tower ruins from afar, forming an important axis in the urban planning of Fengyang’s new district. The museum covers a construction area of 7,000 square meters with a total investment of over 70 million yuan. It was designed by the China Architecture Design & Research Group, constructed by Anhui Yuanding Construction Company, and its exhibitions were decorated and produced by Henan Tianye Culture & Art Co., Ltd. The design is based on the core concept of “city walls and residential houses.” The two sets of slab buildings to the north and south represent the city walls, while the overlapping sloped roofs in between symbolize the residential houses. The solid and massive city walls provide internal protection, and the staggered residential houses create multiple courtyards. The interplay and interpenetration between the two generate a rich variety of interior and exterior spaces.

The exhibitions at Fengyang County Museum highlight key elements and distinctive features. On the first floor, there are three permanent exhibition halls: the History and Culture Hall, the Zhongli Hall, and the Zhongdu Hall. On the second floor, there are two temporary exhibition spaces. Through the display of cultural relics unearthed from various historical periods in Fengyang, the exhibitions provide a general overview of the county’s continuous five-thousand-year history, and offer an objective assessment and summary of the unique status of Fengyang’s historical culture within the broader contexts of Huai River civilization and even Chinese civilization. Since its opening, the museum has attracted a steady stream of visitors, receiving around 150,000 visitors annually, effectively fulfilling its role in promoting society through historical relics and educating the public.
