The Huainan Youth Extracurricular Activity Center functions as a science education base and a patriotic education base.

The Huainan Youth Extracurricular Activity Center and Huainan Primary and Secondary School Students' Education & Practice Base (formerly Huainan No. 18 Middle School) are located in the eastern part of Huainan. To the north lies the Huai River, to the south the Shungeng Mountain, nestled along National Highway 206 and adjacent to the city center. The area features abundant natural and cultural resources such as the Shangyao Mountain 4A-level Forest Park, Datong Mass Grave Memorial Hall, Huainan New Fourth Army Memorial Forest, and Huainan Horticultural Farm, making it an ideal site for youth educational practice and skills training.

The activity center features a scientifically planned layout and rational design. The teaching area is divided into thematic education exhibition halls and practical activity zones, with a total of 36 functional rooms, all equipped with comprehensive facilities and advanced devices. Currently, there are 47 faculty members, including 15 senior high school teachers, 26 first-level high school teachers, and 98% holding a university degree or higher. With a strong teaching staff, the center fully meets the requirements of education and teaching.

The activity center adheres to the educational philosophy of “extending school education, connecting with social education, and practicing quality-oriented education.” It maximizes the educational role of extracurricular learning, striving to create a complementary and coordinated dual-mechanism of in-school and out-of-school education. It highlights the public welfare nature of educational practice and the engaging quality of hands-on activities. Through scientific development, the center is gradually building a high-level, Huainan-characterized network and platform for youth extracurricular education.

Currently, the activity center receives nearly 15,000 students annually from the city’s fifth and sixth grades of primary school and seventh and eighth grades of junior high school for comprehensive practical activities. Since 2009, the center has been successively designated as a “Anhui Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Reduction Science Education Base,” “National Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Reduction Science Education Base,” “Anhui Science Education Base,” and “National Science Education Base.” It is now striving toward the goal of being “distinctive in features, popular among students, top-tier in Anhui, and nationally renowned.”
