The Tanggu Cultural Wall serves as a patriotic education base.

The Tanggu Cultural Wall was built along the flood control wall stretching from the Haihe Riverside to the Old Port. It was completed and opened to the public on January 19, 2005. Spanning a total length of 1,285 meters with a uniform height of 3.2 meters, the wall includes three sections: "Origins of Chinese Characters," "The World Within Characters," and "Sailing the Sea of Literature." Its content integrates the history of Chinese character development, the history of Chinese calligraphy, and the history of Chinese literature. The area also features stone-and-timber pedestrian pathways that integrate the cultural wall, the scenic Haihe River views, illuminated night displays, and green landscaping, transforming this downstream flood defense structure into a beautiful cultural corridor with both artistic value and educational significance. In 2006, it was designated as a Tianjin Municipal Patriotic Education Base by the municipal Party committee and government.

Since its completion and opening, the Tanggu Cultural Wall has attracted attention from scholars, experts, and media outlets for its refined cultural ambiance. It has also become a popular destination for visiting tourists, hosting nearly 100,000 group visits by primary and secondary school students. In 2012, relevant departments carried out a comprehensive renovation of the Chinese Character Grand View Cultural Wall, adding solar-powered lighting, flower arrangements, benches, and expanding surrounding green spaces, giving the site a fresh new look.
