On the beautiful shores of the Bohai Sea, in Tianjin’s Soong Ching Ling Bohai Children’s World, stands a bronze statue. The sculpture depicts two elderly figures gazing affectionately at the innocent and lively children at their knees. This is the Tianjin Patriotic Education Base — the Bronze Statue of Zhou Enlai, Deng Yingchao, and Children. The two elders on the statue are the beloved veteran proletarian revolutionaries of the Chinese people, Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao.

Comrades Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao were great proletarian revolutionaries, staunch Marxists, loyal communist fighters, and outstanding leaders of the Party and the country. Their revolutionary careers both began in Tianjin, and they held deep affection for this land, referring to it as their second hometown.

The life journeys of these two great figures, Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao, were closely intertwined with Tianjin, the nation, and the destiny of the Chinese people. On January 6, 1976, the beloved Comrade Zhou Enlai passed away after his final battle with illness. In accordance with his wishes, his ashes were scattered across the rivers and lands of the motherland. On July 11, 1992, Comrade Deng Yingchao completed her glorious life journey. True to her promise with her closest partner, her ashes were scattered in the Bohai Bay. To express the profound reverence and deep remembrance that the people of China, especially the residents along the Haihe River, held for these two great figures, the municipal Party committee and government decided to erect the Bronze Statue of Zhou Enlai, Deng Yingchao, and Children at the site where Comrade Deng Yingchao’s ashes were scattered.

On July 18, 1993, the first anniversary of Comrade Deng Yingchao’s passing, the unveiling ceremony of the “Bronze Statue of Zhou Enlai, Deng Yingchao, and Children” was held at Tianjin’s Soong Ching Ling Bohai Children’s World. Since its completion, the statue has attracted large numbers of visitors each year for paying respects and holding various commemorative activities. It has become an important site for patriotic and revolutionary tradition education among young people. In 1994, it was designated as a Tianjin Patriotic Education Base by the municipal Party committee and government.
