Tianjin has a long and storied history in the textile industry, dating back to 1898 when the Tianjin Textile Felt Bureau was established. With over a century of heritage, it has become one of China’s key textile industrial bases. In honor of this proud legacy and with an eye toward the future, the Tianjin Textile Group (Holding) Co., Ltd. founded the Tianjin Textile Museum, which opened to the public in May 2010.

The museum is located in the Tianfang Building within the High-Tech Textile Industrial Park of the Airport Logistics Processing Zone, covering a construction area of over 1,800 square meters. It is divided into four exhibition areas: Ancient Textiles, Modern Textiles, Contemporary and Recent Textiles, and Special Exhibitions. The collection includes 15 major categories of materials, over 300 volumes of documents, more than 5,000 images, over 2,000 artifacts, and over 50,000 words of exhibition text. The exhibits highlight the distinctive characteristics of the industry through a systematic and comprehensive layout that authentically reflects historical development. Blending knowledge and science communication, the museum makes full use of modern technologies such as sound, light, and electricity to comprehensively showcase the formation and evolution of Tianjin’s textile industry. It emphasizes the industry’s early origins, diverse sectors, and significant impact, underscoring Tianjin’s important role and contributions in China’s industrial development, as well as the rich cultural heritage and unique spirit cultivated over its century-long history.

The museum is a condensed representation of Tianjin’s century-long textile history and also serves as a modern-day calling card for the city’s textile sector. It authentically portrays the perseverance, dedication, and relentless drive of Tianjin’s textile professionals. A visit to the Tianjin Textile Museum is nothing short of a cultural journey through a hundred years of Tianjin’s textile heritage.

The Textile Museum is a national model base for spiritual civilization in the textile industry and a municipal industrial tourism demonstration site. In 2013, it was designated as a Tianjin Patriotic Education Base by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
