TEDA Library and Archives serves as a patriotic education base.

TEDA Library and Archives is located in the core area of Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA). It is an architecturally distinctive and grand building, often referred to as the "Crystal Palace of Knowledge." Since its opening in December 2003, guided by the principles of promoting progressive ideas, scientific and technological knowledge, and cultural information, fostering patriotism, enriching cultural life, improving public quality, and facilitating cultural exchange, the facility has become one of the most representative cultural venues and landmark buildings in TEDA. It serves not only as a center of learning for scholars and intellectuals but also as an educational base for citizens and youths to learn about local history, receive patriotic education, and engage in student social practice. It is recognized as a “National First-Class Archives” and a “National First-Class Public Library,” and is the only regional cultural institution in China that integrates the management of libraries, archives, and information services.

The facility covers a land area of 16,700 square meters, with a total construction area of 66,700 square meters. The library and archives section alone spans 33,600 square meters. It is designed to house up to 1 million volumes of archives and 1.5 million books, and includes 1,200 reading seats. Currently, the collection includes 1.18 million books and 510,000 volumes of archives. There is also a 3,200-square-meter exhibition hall and a multi-functional lecture hall with 234 seats, capable of accommodating up to 5,000 visitors at once.

The first floor of the office area houses a current documents reading area, an electronic reading room, an archives consultation desk, and an electronic document processing center. The second floor contains an archives data processing center and training classrooms. The third floor is equipped with individual and group research rooms. The fourth floor features the “Never Forget Yesterday” exhibition hall showcasing premium archival collections. The fifth floor hosts a 3,000-square-meter art exhibition hall, which displays precious photographs and physical archives documenting the development of TEDA. This space serves as an important venue for hosting various thematic educational and exhibition activities across TEDA and even the Binhai New Area. The facility organizes a series of reading, educational, and recreational activities for young people, aiming to cultivate in children from an early age a love for reading, books, and their hometown, while fully leveraging the social educational role of the library and archives. In 2009, it was designated as a Tianjin Patriotic Education Base by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
