Zhongtang Spark Technology Intensive Zone

The Zhongtang Spark Technology Intensive Zone is a patriotic education base.

In May 1985, in response to the national economic reform and the needs of rural productivity development, and with the approval of the State Council, it was proposed to "undertake a number of short-term, low-cost, fast-yield scientific and technological projects to promote local economic revitalization." Subsequently, the "Spark Program" was launched, symbolizing that the small spark of science and technology would surely set the rural areas of our country ablaze. Then, on the fertile land of Zhongtang, full of hope, the "Spark Program" ignited the prairie fire of economic development with overwhelming momentum, and also kindled the unyielding spirit of the people of Zhongtang. The construction and development of the Zhongtang National Spark Technology Intensive Zone became a milestone in the history of Dagang’s technological development and even in the history of rural technological advancement in Tianjin.

In December 1992, after being reviewed and approved by the State Science and Technology Commission, the Zhongtang Spark Technology Intensive Zone became one of the first 37 comprehensive regional development demonstration zones under the Spark Program nationwide. It was also the first national-level Spark Technology Intensive Zone in the Beijing-Tianjin area. In 1993, after one year of operation, the Zhongtang Spark Technology Intensive Zone passed the assessment of the State Science and Technology Commission once again. In November of the same year, the Zhongtang National Spark Technology Intensive

Zone was officially inaugurated, becoming the fifth national-level Spark Technology Intensive Zone in the country to receive formal recognition. In April 1996, the intensive zone passed the evaluation conducted by both the State Science and Technology Commission and the Municipal Science and Technology Commission.

Within just a few years, Zhongtang Town took the lead nationwide in implementing an integrated regional development strategy combining economy, society, and technology. A total of 32 Spark Program projects were implemented, including 19 at the national level. Over 20 production lines with domestic advanced standards were established, more than 10 national-level new products were created, three national Spark Science and Technology Awards and 12 municipal-level Spark Science and Technology Awards were won, making it the intensive zone at the township level that received the most science and technology awards nationwide.

On the basis of the construction and development of the intensive zone, Zhongtang Town was successively designated as a national demonstration zone by the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Agriculture. With its unique development path, Zhongtang achieved remarkable success and became a shining star among the cluster of Spark Technology Intensive Zones. In 1997, it was named a Tianjin Patriotic Education Base by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
