The Yandunshan Site

The Yandunshan Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Yandunshan Site, situated in the middle section of Jiuhua Road, covers a total area of nearly 30,000 square meters. Nearly 400 artifacts have been unearthed, including stone tools, pottery, proto-porcelain, jade artifacts, and bronze ware. The excavation also revealed nine tombs, seven building foundations, eight hearth sites, 30 ash pits, and a large amount of red burned earth. This site is a human settlement from 5,300 years ago and is a key cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province. With a total area of over 30,000 square meters, a partial rescue excavation led by the Anhui Provincial Institute of Archaeology in 2003 unearthed more than 400 important cultural relics such as jade artifacts, celadon ware, and pottery, as well as multiple hearth sites and ash pits. It served as an important religious and political center in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The site is adjacent to Ma'anshan’s municipal government center, cultural center, and Yandunshan Park, offering wide views and serving as a window to showcase the long history and culture of the middle and lower Yangtze region. It holds significant importance for studying the early cultural lineage and socio-economic development of the area.

Adjacent to Ma'anshan's administrative and cultural centers, the Yandunshan Site was a settlement inhabited by people during the Shang and Zhou dynasties around 5,300 years ago. It is a key cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province, covering a total area of over 30,000 square meters. In 2003, under the direction of the Anhui Provincial Institute of Archaeology, a partial rescue excavation was carried out, unearthing more than 400 important cultural relics including jade artifacts, celadon ware, and pottery, as well as several hearth sites and ash pits. The site was an important religious and political center in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Located in the city center of Ma'anshan and now part of Yandunshan Park, it serves as a window to showcase the region’s rich historical and cultural heritage and is of great significance for researching the early cultural lineage and socio-economic development of the area.
