Lover's Island

Lover's Island is located at the foot of Phoenix Mountain and consists of a peninsula extending into the lake and an isolated small island, covering an area of 30 acres with a built-up area of 4,000 square meters. It faces Moon Bay and Doctor's Island across the lake. It is a leisure resort integrating tourism, sightseeing, and entertainment. The island was originally covered with many wild Albizia trees, and its terrain resembles a pair of lovers parting reluctantly, hence the name. There is another version of how the island got its name: It is said that long ago, there were several fishing families living by the nearby river, while woodcutters lived in Phoenix Mountain. A fisherman’s daughter named Shui Mei was not only beautiful and clever but also had a naturally sweet voice—her speech was crisp and her singing melodious. She and a young woodcutter named Shan Ge had been childhood sweethearts since they were little, growing up with mutual respect and love. When Shui Mei turned 18, Shan Ge asked a matchmaker to propose marriage, and the two families agreed at once. They joyfully held a ceremony to recognize the engagement. However, that year, a severe drought struck, and the river dried up. When autumn harvest came, Shui Mei’s family couldn’t pay their rent. A local landlord, Zhen Daguo, who was over fifty years old, hatched all sorts of schemes to force Shui Mei into becoming his concubine. He came to their home three times a day to demand the rent, and eventually, his henchmen forcibly took Shui Mei into Zhen’s mansion. Upon hearing the news, Shan Ge sneaked into Zhen’s residence under the cover of darkness, rescued Shui Mei, and the two wept bitterly in each other’s arms. Unable to think of a solution, they finally secretly dug a pit on the mountain, embraced, and walked into it together, dying for love. In 1984, a group of archaeologists investigating the island discovered two intertwined skeletons, confirming the truth of this legend. Lover's Island, a place full of romance and fantasy, attracts countless couples seeking to understand the essence of love and feel its profound meaning.

The leisure resort has over 20 standard guest rooms, dining areas that can accommodate more than 100 people for meals simultaneously, and an elegantly decorated meeting room that can host small and medium-sized conferences and entertainment activities. In front of the resort, there is a musical fountain and a rest pavilion. This is a giant teapot that is 2 meters high and 2.4 meters in circumference, engraved with Mr. Zhao Puchu’s poem “Ode to Tianhua Valley Tip Tea”: “Savor deeply the tea of my homeland with affection; do not say that drifting clouds forget home. Having tasted Ceylon and Uji teas, I find none as fragrant as our Tianhua.” Beneath the spout of the teapot sits a huge tea bowl, where water drips from the spout into the bowl. Once full, it slowly seeps into the surrounding grass, symbolizing the promotion of southwestern Anhui’s tea culture and Mr. Zhao Puchu’s philosophy of “limitless vows and actions.” We descend along marble steps and cross the iron box-style pontoon bridge connecting the peninsula with the small island. There are two routes to reach the island: one is the water pontoon bridge, and the other is the aerial slide. The “aerial slide” is a highly attractive activity for tourists, also known as “high-altitude zip-lining.” The slide is about 500 meters long, stretching directly from the mountainside of Phoenix Mountain down to the island. Hanging high in the air and gliding smoothly over, it’s thrilling and exciting. Although safe and reliable, it does require a bit of courage. The island is covered with flowers that bloom all year round, shaded by lush green trees. There are marble tables and chairs for resting and tea drinking, statues of lovers for visitors to admire and take photos with, private love cabins for gaming, entertainment, and overnight stays, and an observation pavilion offering panoramic views of the fresh and picturesque lake and mountain scenery. Lover's Island is a rare leisure and sightseeing destination.
