Taihu County Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

Taihu County Martyrs' Cemetery was established in 1959. It is located on Longzhu Mountain within the Huating Lake Scenic Area, a national-level scenic spot approximately 3 kilometers from the county seat, covering an area of over 130,000 square meters. The cemetery is nestled against a mountain and surrounded by water, shaded by lush trees, and boasts a beautiful environment. Within the grounds are memorial structures including a Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Hall, a Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower, a Martyrs' Cemetery, and a Martyrs' Mausoleum. Buried here are 22 notable martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Second Revolutionary Civil War, including Wu Shengchan, founder of the Beizhong Soviet Area and the Beizhong Party organization as well as the first secretary of the Beizhong Party branch; Wang Yixun, captain of the Red Guards in the Beizhong Soviet Area; and Liang Cheng, deputy political commissar and director of the political department of the First Sub-district of Western Anhui during the Liberation War. The Martyrs' Cemetery houses the remains of revolutionary soldiers who died during the War of Resistance against Japan.

On November 6, 1984, the late Comrade Li Xiannian, then President of China, personally inscribed the name “Martyrs' Cemetery” for the site. On the same day, Comrade Guo Shushen, then standing committee member of the Central Advisory Commission, wrote an inscription reading: “Carry forward the revolutionary traditions of the people of Taihu and make new contributions to the Four Modernizations.” In 1997, the cemetery gatehouse was redesigned and reconstructed by the county urban construction bureau and design office based on on-site surveys. Considering the characteristics of the cemetery and the Huating Lake scenic area, the original stone archway was replaced with a traditional-style gatehouse, featuring the inscribed name personally written by President Li Xiannian. This harmonizes with the classical-style design of the Memorial Hall. The front and back of the gatehouse are lined with evergreen trees, creating a simple and elegant atmosphere. The base of the gatehouse is built from granite blocks, lending it a solid, dignified, and majestic presence. Taihu County Martyrs' Cemetery is now a provincial-level patriotic education base, a municipal-level protected martyrs’ memorial structure, and a municipal-level national defense education base. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors—including party and government officials, public groups, students, and local citizens—come to pay their respects and visit the cemetery to honor the martyrs and receive education.

With the rise of red tourism, Taihu County Martyrs' Cemetery is undergoing a new round of planning and construction. Plans include investing 30 million yuan in comprehensive renovation and expansion. Once completed, Taihu County Martyrs' Cemetery will become a shining jewel of the Huating Lake Scenic Area. Visitors and locals alike can enjoy the country’s beautiful landscapes while also paying tribute to the heroic achievements of revolutionary martyrs, receiving patriotic and revolutionary tradition education.
