Huating Lake Ruins Cluster

The Huating Lake Ruins Cluster is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

The Huating Lake Ruins Cluster is located in Taxian Village of Siquan Town, Henglu Village and Huangzhen Village of Tianhua Town, Taihu County, Anqing City, Anhui Province.

Huating Lake is an artificial lake situated in the middle and upper reaches of the Chang River. Beneath the lake were once numerous scattered lakes, making it suitable for human habitation. The area contains 54 ancient ruins dating from the Neolithic Age to the Shang and Zhou dynasties, forming a vast ruins cluster. The most representative ones include the Liuhe Ruins, Huxingping Ruins, Jiangjiatu Ruins, and Tonggutu Sites 1, 2, and 3. The cultural layers of these ruins are generally 1.5 to 3 meters thick, with relatively flat surfaces on the upper parts. These sites are rich in cultural content, featuring a complete variety of artifact specimens. Items include tripod feet, li tripod feet, vessel ears, spinning whorls, rim fragments, net sinkers, stone balls, stone adzes, stone axes, and stone knives. Pottery fragments mainly display decorative patterns such as cord marks, appliqué ridges, blue patterns, and grooved lines. The pottery is predominantly sandy red earthenware, followed by sandy gray earthenware. The Huating Lake Ruins Cluster features a concentrated geographical distribution, strong cultural continuity, rich content, and distinct characteristics. It belongs to the Xuejiagang culture type. The individual sites are spaced approximately 1.5 to 3 kilometers apart, facing each other and collectively forming a massive settlement ruins cluster from the Neolithic Age to the Shang and Zhou periods, holding significant archaeological value.

Protected Area: The main bodies of the Liuhe Ruins, Huxingping Ruins, Jiangjiatu Ruins, and Tonggutu Sites 1, 2, and 3.

Construction Control Zone: A 30-meter buffer zone surrounding the protected area.
