Tomb of Zhao Yun

The Tomb of Zhao Yun is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Tomb of Zhao Yun is located in Faxing Group, Baoping Village, Beizhong Town, Taihu County.

The tomb faces west and is built as an earthen mound. In front of the tomb are three gravestones, indicating a joint burial site for three individuals. It includes a worship platform, has an overall semi-circular shape, and the burial pit is constructed with stone blocks.

Zhao Yun (1808–1877), courtesy name Hucun, was the fourth son of Zhao Wenkai, the top imperial scholar of the first year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty. In the 21st year of the Daoguang reign (1841), he passed the imperial examination and became a Jinshi. He served as a Shujishi (a compiled scholar) at the Hanlin Academy, was specially appointed to the Shangshufang (Imperial Study), and taught imperial princes. He also held positions such as Compiler at the Hanlin Academy, Chief Compiler at the National History Office, Chief Editor at the Veritable Records Office, and contributed to the compilation of the "History of Canal Transport." He served as Prefect of Chaozhou in Guangzhou, Administrator of Gaoliang, Judicial Commissioner, and as Administrator of Huichaojia. In the third year of the Xianfeng reign, he returned to his hometown to organize local militias, assisting Zeng Guofan and Lü Xianji in resisting the Taiping Rebellion in Anhui, and formulated six regulations for the militia system. In his later years, he presided over lectures at the Jingfu Academy. His daughter, Zhao Jilian, married Li Hongzhang, a prominent statesman of the late Qing Dynasty. His son, Zhao Jiayuan, became a Jinshi in the seventh year of the Tongzhi reign (1868) and served as a Shujishi at the Hanlin Academy. His eldest nephew, Zhao Jitai, became a Jinshi in the year of Gengxu during the Guangxu reign and served as a Compiler at the Hanlin Academy, ranking first in the court examination, later becoming an official in the Ministry of Justice and assigned to the Zhili Department. His third nephew, Zhao Huanqing, became a Jinshi in the tenth year of the Tongzhi reign. His grandson, Zhao Zengzhong, became a Jinshi in the year of Dingchou during the Guangxu reign, was appointed as a Compiler at the Hanlin Academy, a Compiler at the National History Office, an Associate Compiler at the Wuying Hall, and an examining official for the metropolitan examination. He is also the great-great-grandfather of Zhao Puchu, the late Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and an eminent religious leader.

In June 2012, it was designated as a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit by the People's Government of Anhui Province.

Protected Area: Extends to the retaining walls on the east, south, and north sides of the tomb, and to the stone wall of the lower worship platform on the west side.

Construction Control Zone: Extends 10 meters beyond the protected area on the east, south, and north sides, and 10 meters beyond the outer edge of the lowest worship platform stone wall on the west side.

Baoping Village: Overview of Baoping Village

Baoping Village in Beizhong Town is located in the northwest corner of Beizhong Town, within the Dabie Mountain area. It was formed by merging the former Baoping and Hailuo villages and is the hometown of Zhao Wenkai, the top imperial scholar of the Qing Dynasty. It is 14 kilometers from the town center. The village covers a total area of 10.8 square kilometers, with 1,610 mu of arable land and 11,030 mu of forested land. It administers 16 villager groups, with 725 households and a population of 2,536. The area features scenic spots such as the Scholar’s Bridge and the Tomb of Zhao Yun, boasts beautiful mountains and rivers, and is known for its talented people.
