Taihu County Museum

The Cultural Relics Management Office (Museum) of Taihu County is located on Wanjie Street, Outer Ring East Road, Taihu County, Anqing City, Anhui Province. The management of cultural relics in Taihu County began as early as the autumn of 1949 with the establishment of the Taihu County Cultural Center. Before 1975, cultural relic work was handled by the county’s Cultural Center. In October 1977, the Cultural Center had one full-time cultural relics officer. In the spring of 1983, the Cultural Center established a cultural relics group with two full-time cultural relics management officers. In September 1984, the Taihu County Cultural Relics Management Office was established, with an approved staffing of three personnel at the township level, functioning as a fully government-funded public institution under the county’s Culture Bureau. In 1987, one additional position was added at the section chief level, also under the county’s Culture Bureau. In May 2007, the Taihu County Museum was established and shared offices with the Taihu County Cultural Relics Management Office. In May 2011, the county’s institutional compilation office once again approved the arrangement whereby the Taihu County Cultural Relics Management Office and the Taihu County Museum would share offices, operating under one team with two names, with a total approved staffing of 12.

The Taihu County Museum, completed in 2011, is a building designed in the Huizhou architectural style. The museum building covers a construction area of 4,050 square meters, including over 2,600 square meters of exhibition space. The Taihu County Museum is a comprehensive regional museum and serves as one of the key windows for the county's spiritual civilization development. It has been designated as a patriotic education base in Anqing City.
