Longmen Bay of the South, located within the Xin’an River–Fuchun River National Scenic Area, was historically known as Cormorant Bay. It sits just opposite the Fishing Terrace and was once a mooring site for cormorant fishing boats. This natural bay along the Fuchun River boasts breathtaking scenery.

The scenic area covers 5.5 square kilometers, with 1.5 square kilometers of water area. The entire landscape combines canyons, calm lakes, isolated islets, cliffs, waterfalls, and unique pine trees, characterized by harmonious landscapes, steep mountains, crystal-clear waters, traditional mountain villages, and fishing hamlet charm. Due to the climate-moderating effect of the water environment, a distinctive microclimate of the Jiangnan region is formed here—mild in winter and cool in summer. Especially with its many shallow water zones, it serves as a natural swimming spot in summer.

At the entrance of Longmen Bay of the South stands the Yunfeng Yanshui Pavilion, an elegant and majestic structure. Also known as the Eighteen Scholars Pavilion, it is associated with Fang Gan, a late Tang Dynasty poet from Tonglu. Climbing to the pavilion and pushing open the window, you’ll be greeted by misty mountains and vast rivers, a serene and picturesque scene.

The area is divided into four main sightseeing clusters: Fishermen’s Songs in Lower Bay, Fuchun River–, Pine Trees Greeting Guests, and Cliffside Stone Beauty. The entire attraction consists of three parts: Fishermen’s Songs in Lower Bay, –, and Cliffside Stone Walls. Fishermen’s Songs in Lower Bay recreates the lively morning scenes of ancient cormorant fishing; – offers a relaxing leisure experience on the water; while Cliffside Stone Walls present rugged cliffs. All these attractions draw travelers from across the country.

Hop on a painted pleasure boat, a small electric boat, or even a water bicycle, and drift freely atop the jade-like waters—stopping wherever your heart desires. There’s no nagging guide, no noisy crowds, only the occasional bird soaring overhead and the leisurely clouds on the horizon. Just quietly connect with the flowing water, gaze at the beautiful scenery, and let time drift away with the current. If you envy the life of fishermen, ask the scenic area for a silk net and try your hand at catching fish and shrimp, living like a local fisher for a day. The natural water play area in the scenic zone, known as the “Number One Natural Bathing Beach of the Fuchun River,” features a variety of exciting water activities: swimming, water fights, stone crab catching, tug-of-war on the water, searching for idiom stones, and water adventure games. Not far away, another water play area offers thrilling activities. Swimming, water fights, catching stone crabs, water tug-of-war, finding idiom stones… plus intense water adventures—the ultimate test of bravery. Here, all life’s worries melt away with the water, and countless joys arise because of it. In this mirror-like expanse of green water, the truest version of yourself can immerse, carefree.

Longmen Bay of the South is a newly developed attraction along the Fuchun River. It is about 10 kilometers from Tonglu County. For self-drive visitors, you can depart from Tonglu County, head southwest along the river, cross the Fuchun River First Bridge, then continue southward into the scenic area. Alternatively, take National Highway 320 southwest, passing through Fuchun River Town and the dam to reach the site. If arriving in Tonglu by other means of transport, buses to Longmen Bay are available at the foot of the Fuchun River First Bridge.
