Memorial Hall of the Yaqian Peasant Movement

The Memorial Hall of the Yaqian Peasant Movement is located on Phoenix Mountain in Yaqian Town, covering an area of 1,000 square meters. It was officially opened to the public on September 25, 1999. The name of the hall was inscribed by Bo Yibo, a veteran proletarian revolutionary and statesman. With the peasant movement as its theme, the exhibition combines the May Fourth Movement and the current prosperity of Yaqian. Featuring over a hundred historical photographs, cultural relics, and numerous images, it recreates the process of the earliest peasant movement led by our Party. The former site of the Yaqian Peasant Association — Dongyue Temple, located along the Xiaoshao Canal, served as the venue for meetings of the peasant association and the office space for its committee members. The exhibition hall is divided into a foyer and two exhibition rooms, with seven display sections including “Today’s Yaqian,” “The Spread of Modern Peasant Movement Ideology,” “The Launch of the Yaqian Peasant Movement,” “The Outbreak of the Yaqian Peasant Movement,” “The Surge of the Yaqian Peasant Movement,” and “The Struggle Continues.”

The Memorial Hall of the Yaqian Peasant Movement has been successively designated as a Zhejiang Provincial Classic Red Tourism Destination for Youth, a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a Zhejiang Provincial Patriotic Education Base, and a Zhejiang Provincial Training Base for Party Members and Cadres. In addition, the Yaqian Rural Primary School, established by Shen Dingyi, an early member of the Chinese Communist Party, was originally built within the right wing of his private residence, Guangshilu Manor. The preserved school building is a two-and-a-half-story quadrangle-style structure, founded in 1921. It was the earliest school under the leadership of our Party dedicated to educating the children of peasants.

Yaqian Town: Located in the central part of Xiaoshan District, Yaqian Town in Xiaoshan District is 14 kilometers west of the district center, 15 kilometers east of China Shaoxing Textile City, and 8 kilometers north of Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. The town covers an area of 19.8 square kilometers with a total population of over 23,600. National Highway 104, the Xiaoshao Canal, and the Hangzhou–Ningbo Railway all run through the town. It is recognized as one of Zhejiang Province’s “Top 100 Towns” in comprehensive economic strength, an Outstanding Town in Hangzhou, a Model Town for New Rural Construction, and ranks second in overall economic strength within the district.
