Qiyuan Temple

Qiyuan Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Hangzhou Municipality.

Qiyuan Temple is located at No. 9 Tiyu Road, Chengxiang Town. It is the largest temple in Xiaoshan and one of the more standardized Buddhist Chan temples, serving as a highly influential Buddhist site in ancient Xiaoshan and throughout the entire eastern Zhejiang region. According to the Jiatai-era "Huizhou Annals" from the Southern Song Dynasty, the temple was originally built in the sixth year of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (331) when a scholar-official named Xu Xun donated his residence, and it was initially named Chonghua Temple. Buddhism was introduced to the Xiaoshao area during the middle period of Emperor Ling’s reign in the Eastern Han Dynasty (184–189), which means that Qiyuan Temple was established just over a hundred years after Buddhism first arrived in the region — a testament to its long and profound historical roots.

Chengxiang Subdistrict: Chengxiang Subdistrict is situated in the economic and cultural center of Xiaoshan District. It borders Beigan Subdistrict to the north, Xintang Subdistrict to the east, Shushan Subdistrict to the south, and Xixing Subdistrict of Binjiang District to the west.

Chengxiang Subdistrict is located in the economic and cultural hub of Xiaoshan and is both the birthplace of Xiaoshan’s urban development and a pioneer in its urbanization. The subdistrict covers an area of 22 square kilometers. According to statistics from the Chengxiang Police Station in October 2011, the registered resident population of Chengxiang was 118,529, with 39,055 registered migrant residents.
