Mengbi Bridge

Mengbi Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Hangzhou.

Commonly known as Jiangsi Bridge, Mengbi Bridge is located in front of Jiang Temple on Wenhua Road in Chengxiang Town, spanning the Chenghe River. It is a single-arch stone bridge. According to the Jiatai Kuaiji Annals from the Southern Song Dynasty, it was built during the Jianyuan era (479–482) of the Southern Qi Dynasty, and was named after the story of Jiang Yan’s “dream of a flower-blooming brush.” The current bridge was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. The bridge is 14.5 meters long and 2.5 meters wide. The arch has a span of 5 meters. The arch ring is constructed using the method of vertically aligned, segmented, and parallel masonry. The bridge is equipped with railings and balusters. In 1984, a stone stele was erected by the bridge, inscribed with the words “Ancient Mengbi Bridge,” and calligraphy by Zhu Sui-zhi featuring a poem about the bridge by Hua Zhen. In April 1993, the Xiaoshan Municipal People’s Government designated it as a cultural relic protection unit.

It runs from north to south, spanning the Chenghe River (Xiaoshao Canal) in front of Jiang Temple. The bridge is 14.5 meters long and 2.5 meters wide. The arch has a span of 5 meters. The arch ring is constructed using the method of vertically aligned, segmented, and parallel masonry. The bridge is equipped with railings and balusters.

Jiangsi Community: The permanent resident population of Jiangsi Community is 9,505, with 6,064 registered residents. There are 1,897 residents aged 60 or above, including 277 aged 80 or above, and 708 youths under the age of 18. In recent years, the community has focused on building a parent-child volunteer service platform centered on “nurturing love through love” and an integrated prevention and control platform for “community-based defense and governance.” Relying on the Nurturing Love Workshop, the Shi Guanmu Police Office, the community patrol vehicle, and the police convenience service vehicle, it has created a platform where various forces serve the community, enhancing residents’ sense of belonging to the community.
