Xiaoshan Jile Temple

Xiaoshan Jile Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Hangzhou City.

Jile Temple is a Buddhist temple located at the foot of Hangwu Mountain in Yongjian Village, Kanshan Town, Xiaoshan City. In October 1994, it was approved for opening by the People's Government of Hangzhou City and officially named "Jile Temple," becoming one of the open temples in Xiaoshan City.

The temple is located in a uniquely shaped terrain, described locally as: "With the Green Dragon to the left and the White Tiger to the right, the Left Flag and Right Drum in place; in front lies the Hall of Worship, and behind, the Lecture Hall — resembling an imperial grandmaster’s chair." According to local legend, in ancient times, Liu Bowen feared that this area might produce a rebellious king, so he started disrupting the feng shui from Shuitaqiao, chopping the ten turtle-shaped small hills along the East River — which resembled a string of beads — into two parts. The marks of this act can still be seen today. When Master Haizhi was overseeing the excavation for the foundation of the Mahavira Hall, workers unearthed a ceramic Bagua (Eight Trigrams) plaque and a hollow space. Inside the cavity were five clay eggs arranged in a distinct pattern, resembling yellow hatching eggs. Locals believe these were feng shui artifacts placed by Imperial Advisor Liu to suppress the mountain’s energy. Unfortunately, due to improper safekeeping, these items were stolen and have been missing ever since.

Surrounded by green mountains and dotted with pine and bamboo, Jile Temple enjoys picturesque scenery. "Where peaks rise by the Qiantang River, and a new spring greets you deep in the hills." The orientation of the land here is considered highly auspicious. The temple has two natural springs, the water of which is cool in summer and warm in winter, never drying up in drought nor overflowing in flood, and boasts a sweet, refreshing taste.

Guashao Town: In accordance with the “Reply of the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province Regarding the Adjustment of Some Administrative Divisions in Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City” (Zhe Zheng Han [2013] No. 123) and relevant regulations on administrative division adjustments, the following reply is hereby issued:

Approval is granted to revoke the administrative status of Guashao Town, Kanshan Town, and Dangshan Town, and merge them to establish a new Guashao Town. The new town will govern 11 communities and 63 administrative villages, with the town government located at No. 220 Hangwu Road.
