Lougang

Lougang is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area.

The Taihu Lougang (including the ancient bridge cluster of Taihu Lougang: Anle Bridge, Pu'an Bridge, Chenlou Tangqiao, Yangdu Bridge, Shuzhong Bridge, Zhulou Bridge, Yongji Tangqiao, and Shangyi Bridge)

The South Taihu Lougang Water Conservancy Scenic Area stretches from Qiaolou Village in Wuxing in the east to Daqian Village in the west, borders Taihu Lake to the north, and extends to the Shen-Su-Zhe-Wan Expressway in the south, covering a planned total area of 76 square kilometers. According to the plan, the scenic area will be divided into a Water Town Folk Culture & Sports Zone, an Ancient Lougang Village Cultural Experience Zone, a Creative Farm Leisure & Entertainment Zone, and a Specialized Eco-Agriculture Sightseeing Zone.

In November last year, the Taihu Lougang was successfully inscribed on the World Heritage Irrigation Structures list. Building on this, the Wuxing District has vigorously advanced various application procedures for the Lougang Water Conservancy Scenic Area, restoring and connecting the original Lougang water system, constructing 38 kilometers of ecological revetments, and designating 27 Lougangs, two Lougang polder fields, and a large number of bridges, ancient houses, and memorial archways as municipal cultural relics protection units. Emphasis has been placed on the restoration of historic buildings in Yigao Village, Zhili Town, the regulation of longitudinal Lougangs and transverse ponds, the construction of the Lougang Cultural Museum, and the improvement of the polder irrigation and drainage system. Meanwhile, a 16-kilometer-long, 100-meter-wide lakeside landscape belt has been built along the southern shore of Taihu Lake, becoming a new destination for Taihu tourism.

On October 7, 2019, the Taihu Lougang was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
