New Year's Eve Fireworks Viewing Spot: First Countryside Park Welcomes Visitors

As the year draws to a close, the highly anticipated New Year's Eve fireworks show is just around the corner. Among them, the Taipei 101 fireworks display stands as Taiwan’s iconic New Year’s event, attracting not only locals but also travelers from around the world to witness this annual celebration.

Restaurants with views near Taipei 101 are fully booked during the New Year's period, making reservations nearly impossible. However, next year will see the opening of a new viewing spot. Jingqin No. 1 Park, located beside Lane 59, Alley 220, Wuxing Street, Xinyi District, began construction on October 1, 2016, and is scheduled for completion in January 2017. It will be Taipei’s first “urban countryside park,” incorporating results from public participation in its design. The park will feature an herb garden, fountain water features, an observation plaza, a curved loop path, and landscaped grassy slopes, offering unobstructed views of Taipei 101. It is set to become a popular destination for New Year's Eve fireworks viewing.

Jingqin No. 1 Park plans to develop an herb garden on its northwest side, using the structure of leaf veins as the design starting point. Based on the concept of zoning through leaf veins, it will incorporate herbs such as osmanthus, jasmine, rosemary, fragrant marigold, pineapple sage, rose geranium, fennel, and lemongrass. These plants will be used for their colors, shapes, and scents to create a natural, curvy, colorful, and fragrant atmosphere. Meanwhile, the design of the fountain water features will soften the space and enhance its rhythm, providing visitors with a multi-sensory experience involving sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing, crafting a natural and healthy urban oasis.

With its exceptional views of Taipei 101, Jingqin No. 1 Park has been highly anticipated by the public during the design phase for a multifunctional plaza that can accommodate both viewing and activities. Therefore, lawn steps and seating areas will be installed around the plaza, offering ample space for activities and comfortable zones for enjoying the scenery. The design also cleverly utilizes the undulating terrain of the curved loop path and landscaped grassy slopes to enhance the overall natural feel and rhythm, aiming to establish the park as one of the city’s key recreational landmarks.
