As the year draws to a close, one of the most spectacular annual events – the countdown fireworks show – is fast approaching. Among them, the Taipei 101 fireworks display stands as Taiwan’s iconic New Year’s Eve attraction, drawing not only local crowds but also international travelers eager to witness this dazzling yearly spectacle.

Restaurants with views around Taipei 101 are fully booked during the countdown season, making reservations nearly impossible. However, next year will see the opening of a new viewing spot. Jingqin No. 1 Park, located near Lane 59, Section 220, Wuxing Street, Xinyi District, broke ground on October 1, 2016, and is scheduled to be completed by January 2017. It will be Taipei’s first “urban countryside park,” incorporating results from public participation in its design. The park will feature an herb garden, a fountain water feature, an observation plaza, curved looped pathways, and landscaped grassy slopes. With excellent sightlines, visitors can clearly see Taipei 101, making it a future hotspot for enjoying New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Jingqin No. 1 Park plans to develop an herb garden on its northwest side, using the structure of leaf veins as a design starting point. Through the concept of zoning based on leaf venation, the design employs a variety of herbs such as osmanthus, jasmine, rosemary, fragrant marigold, pineapple sage, rose geranium, fennel, and lemongrass, utilizing their colors, shapes, and fragrances to create a natural, curving, vibrant, and aromatic atmosphere. The fountain water features are also designed to soften the space and enhance its rhythm, offering visitors a multi-sensory experience – sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing – crafting a natural and healthy urban oasis.

With its prime view of Taipei 101, Jingqin No. 1 Park has long been anticipated by the public to include a multifunctional plaza that can accommodate both viewing and events. Thus, grass terraces and seating areas have been arranged around the plaza to provide an open activity space and a comfortable viewing area. Additionally, the design makes clever use of the terrain variations created by the curved looped pathways and landscaped grassy slopes to heighten the sense of natural flow and rhythm, aiming to establish the park as one of the city’s key recreational landmarks.
