Traffic Control and Transport Information for the Taipei 101 New Year's Eve Fireworks Show

Counting down to New Year’s Eve 2019, the highly anticipated Taipei 101 fireworks display will once again feature the large-scale mesh screen T-Pad LED animation combined with the building this year. The specifications have been upgraded, and the screen is about 1.5 times taller than last year’s, with a total area exceeding 6,000 square meters. Paired with a spectacular fireworks show of 16,000 shots lasting over 300 seconds, it will bring the Taipei New Year’s countdown to life.

Due to the large crowds expected at the New Year’s Eve event, here is a summary of traffic control measures in the surrounding areas:

(1) From midnight on December 28 to 6:00 AM on January 2, the following roads will be fully closed: the entire stretch of Shifu Road (from Songshou to Songgao Road), and the entire stretch of Xinren’ai Road.

(2) Three phases of traffic control in the Xinyi Planning District starting at 7:00 PM on December 31
7:00–8:00 PM: The controlled area includes the region enclosed by Songren Road, Xinyi Road, Keelung Road, Yixian Road, Songgao Road, and Zhongxiao East Road. Vehicles are only allowed to exit, not enter.
8:00–10:00 PM: The controlled area includes the first phase zone, plus Yixian Road (Ren’ai to Zhongxiao East Road), Ren’ai Road (Yixian to Guangfu South Road), the Keelung Road short tunnel (south to north entrance), long tunnel (north to south) exits, and motorcycles are permitted to travel north through the long tunnel. Vehicle access is prohibited.
10:00 PM–3:00 AM: The controlled area includes the region enclosed by Section 5, Zhongxiao East Road, Lane 236, Songde Road, Lane 168, Songde Road, Xinyi Road (Songde to Songren Road), Songren Road, Zhuangjing Road, the north slow lane of Xinyi Road (Keelung to Guangfu South Road), Guangfu South Road (Zhongxiao East Road to Ren’ai Road), and Zhongxiao East Road (Guangfu South to Songxin Road). No vehicles are allowed to enter or exit.

(3) Parking Control (within the controlled area)
1. Roadside motorcycle and car parking spaces are prohibited from 5:00 PM.
2. Yellow lines are off-limits for temporary parking from 5:00 PM until 3:00 AM the next day.
3. Parking lots will allow only exiting from 7:00 PM, and full access control begins at 8:00 PM.
4. Temporary parking is prohibited on bus assembly routes: the east side of Guangfu South Road (Keelung Road - Wenchang Street), the north slow lane of Ren’ai Road (Yanji Street - Dunhua South Road), the west side of Section 2, Keelung Road (Wenchang Street - Guangfu South Road), and the west side of Songde Road (Xinyi Road - Hulin Street).
 
(4) Control at the City Hall Transfer Station and Underground Passageways
1. City Hall Transfer Station: Starting at 7:00 PM on December 31, large buses are restricted to exiting only, not entering. Passengers must use alternative bus stops outside the controlled area. Passageway controls apply as illustrated in Attachment 2.
2. Taipei 101/World Trade Center MRT Station Underground Passageway: Closed at 10:00 PM on December 31, 2018, and reopened at 3:00 AM on January 1.
3. Breeze Xinyi Underground Passageway: Closed at 10:00 PM on December 31, 2018, and reopens according to regular weekday hours on January 1 (Unified Era Department Store and Breeze Xinyi Department Store open at 11:00 AM).

(5) Three shuttle bus lines for post-event transit will run until 1:30 AM on January 1. Routes, destinations, and boarding points:
Line 1 (to Taipei Main Station MRT): Board on the north slow lane of Ren’ai Road (Yanji Street - Dunhua South Road).
Line 2 (to Gongguan Station MRT): Board on Section 2, Keelung Road (Wenchang Street - Guangfu South Road) and Guangfu South Road (Keelung Road - Wenchang Street).
Line 3 (to Muzha and Jingmei areas): Board on the west side of Songde Road (Hulin Street - Xinyi Road).
 
(6) Bicycle riding is completely prohibited within the controlled area; YouBike stations are under phased control
1. Starting at 5:00 PM on December 31, 10 YouBike stations around the Xinyi Planning District will suspend operations.
2. Starting at 7:00 PM on December 31, an additional 8 stations will suspend service: Taipei City Disaster Response Center, Xiangshan Park, Taipei MRT Xinyi Anhe Station (Exit 4), Keelung-Guangfu Intersection, Ren’ai-Yanji Street Intersection, Sanxing Park, Taipei MRT Xinyi Anhe Station (Exit 1), and Taipei MRT National Father Memorial Hall Station (Exit 2), totaling 18 stations.
3. Designated parking guidance stations during the control period include Songshan Home Economics & Commerce Vocational High School, Futai Park, Longmen Plaza, Taipei MRT Da’an Station, and Taipei Medical University—five stations in total.
4. Starting from 5:00 AM on January 1, the aforementioned 18 stations will resume normal operations.
 
(VII) Recommended detour routes for traveling through the Xinyi Planning District on New Year's Eve
1. East–West direction: It is recommended to use Nanjing East–West Road, Civic Boulevard, and Heping East–West Road.
2. North–South direction: It is recommended to use Xinxing North–South Road, Jianguo North–South Road, Dunhua North–South Road, and Songshan Road.
3. From Neihu, Nangang, and Songshan heading toward Wuxing Street
4. By car: Civic Boulevard → Dunhua South Road → Heping East Road toward Wuxing Street.
5. By motorcycle: Civic Boulevard → Yanji Street, Guangfu South Road to Keelung Road.
 
(VIII) To attend the New Year’s Eve party at Rainbow Riverside Park, you can use the pedestrian underpass (at the intersection of Xinhu 2nd Road and Section 1 of Diding Boulevard, near the Xinminquan pumping station) and the pedestrian overpass nearby.
 
(IX) The Taoyuan MRT will operate non-stop for 41 hours.
