Bi Mountain Site
The Bi Mountain Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
The Bi Mountain Site is distributed around Bi Mountain in Balidian, Wuxing District, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Located about 2.5 kilometers north of Huzhou’s city gate, pottery artifacts unearthed during a river-dredging project in 1957 were predominantly food vessels such as plate-shaped beans. A bronze dagger-axe and a piece of Shang Dynasty tortoise-shell divination bone were also discovered. The site dates to the Shang and Zhou periods, after the Liangzhu Culture and before the Spring and Autumn–Warring States periods. On March 11, 1963, the People's Government of Zhejiang Province designated the Bi Mountain Site as a Provincial Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
In March 2013, the Bi Mountain Site was announced as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
In July 2013, the Huzhou Bi Mountain Site became one of the first provincial-level archaeological site parks in Zhejiang Province.
Archaeological surveys have shown that the Bi Mountain Site covers a vast area, has a long time span, and features rich cultural content. It is the most significant Shang and Zhou period site discovered so far within Zhejiang Province. The protection and study of this site hold great importance for establishing Zhejiang’s cultural chronology, understanding archaeological lineage relationships, and gaining insight into the production and living conditions of ancient inhabitants.
