Guide: The temples and pavilions on the mountain are nestled among dense woods, while ancient relics are tucked away in the red cliffs, earning it a reputation as the “Finest of Kuocang.” Nanming Mountain is renowned for its cultural attractions, especially its cliff inscriptions, among which the calligraphy of Ge Hong, Shen Kuo, and Mi Fu are the most precious.

Cliff Inscriptions The cliff inscriptions of Nanming Mountain were listed as a provincial-level cultural heritage site in 1981. There are currently 58 cliff inscriptions, mainly distributed across three areas: Shiliang, Gaoyang Cave, and Yun’ge Cliff. Shiliang stretches over ten zhang in length, suspended in mid-air, and is referred to as “Half Cloud” or “Hanging Rainbow,” featuring 20 inscribed records; Gaoyang Cave has 15 cliff inscriptions, mostly remnants from the Song Dynasty. Yun’ge Cliff has 12 inscriptions, among which the two characters “Ling Chong” are noted for their powerful brushwork and are said to have been written by Ge Hong of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, along with the three characters “Nanming Mountain” inscribed by Mi Fu, the great Northern Song Dynasty painter and calligrapher.

Nanming Mountain is a provincial-level scenic area, located 2 kilometers south of the city and facing the urban area across the Ou River.

Transportation

Take Bus No. 2 to the terminal stop to get there. Note: do not take the Bus No. 2 shuttle, as it does not go to Nanming Mountain.
