Labagou Primitive Forest Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national-level forest park.

Labagou Primitive Forest Park is situated in the core area of the primitive forest within Labagoumen Manchu Township, Huairou District, Beijing. With an average altitude between 700 and 1,700 meters, the area boasts a vast, rugged terrain, pure air, and beautiful scenery. In the rarely visited depths of the forest, there are still natural science mysteries yet to be deciphered. The entire primitive forest park covers an area of 45 square kilometers, with 60 kilometers of sightseeing trails. It includes three distinct viewing areas: South Monkey Ridge, Hundred-Zhang Cliff, and Glacier. Over 90% of the park is covered by forest, hosting 677 plant species and more than 300 animal species, making it a kingdom of biodiversity and the essence of primitive forest landscapes. The park features extensive birch forests, purple birch forests, alpine azaleas, larch forests, and secondary oak forests, along with many precious tree species such as purple magnolia and yellow pineapple. The park’s attractions are characterized by its pristine forests, rich biodiversity, peculiar peaks and rocks, and cultural relics. In spring, visitors can enjoy the vibrant azaleas covering the mountains; in summer, they can escape to the cool climate of the high-altitude forest; and in autumn, they can admire the colorful foliage. Beijing Labagou Primitive Forest Park, with its unique geographical features and well-preserved forest ecological environment, has become a popular destination for nature eco-tourism, summer retreats, flower and leaf appreciation, as well as a fashionable leisure car camping site.

Although the main landscapes of the three viewing areas—peaks, peculiar rocks, and cultural relics—are similar, each area offers distinct scenic charm due to differences in trail length, landform environments, and species distribution.

I. Hundred-Zhang Cliff Viewing Area

Covering an area of 10 square kilometers, the Hundred-Zhang Cliff Viewing Area is characterized mainly by the city of Beijing’s only remaining large expanse of primitive oak forest. Three kilometers up the scenic highway from the park’s entrance archway lies a flat mountain valley surrounded by cliffs and lush trees, offering a cool and tranquil environment. From here, a 6-kilometer circular sightseeing trail leads to various scenic spots on the mountain, winding through valleys and cliffs and passing through the primitive oak forest. Major attractions in this area include the primitive oak forest, Hundred-Zhang Cliff, Lotus Peak, Dragon Spring, Five-Dragon Pool, Five-Pine Cliff, Cool Gorge, North Heavenly Pillar Peak, and Wild Boar Den.

II. South Monkey Ridge Viewing Area

The South Monkey Ridge Viewing Area spans 12 square kilometers, featuring a 5-square-kilometer expanse of primitive birch forest as its main highlight. In summer, the mountains are covered in lush green, while in autumn, they burst into a riot of colors. A 5-kilometer asphalt road leads directly to the birch forest area. The forest landscapes in this area include birch forests, maple forests, alpine azaleas, and mixed forests of mountain poplar, oak, maple, and birch. The rocky peak and cave landscapes feature Phoenix Terrace, Phoenix Spring, Black Stone Cave, Tianbingkou, and South Monkey Peak.

III. Glacier Viewing Area

The Glacier Viewing Area covers 13 square kilometers, characterized primarily by vast expanses of alpine azaleas, purple birch, and white birch. The alpine azalea area spans 3 square kilometers, while the purple and white birch forests cover 5 square kilometers. Major attractions include the Glacier, Horse-Releasing Valley, White Stone Cave, Twin-View Platform, Azalea Mountain, and Larch Forest. Due to the abundance of steep valleys and peaks, significant altitude variations, and distinct vertical climate changes, the area is sparsely populated and retains a well-preserved primitive ecological environment, giving rise to many mysterious natural phenomena.
