Xiangshui Lake is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Xiangshui Lake Great Wall is located to the west of Mutianyu and is part of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. It is 78 kilometers from Beijing and 28 kilometers from Huairou County, covering a total area of 18 square kilometers. The Xiangshui Lake Scenic Area combines the Great Wall, ancient caves, mountains, springs, waterfalls, and Ming Dynasty cliff carvings. It is another uniquely blessed and picturesque tourist destination in the suburbs of Beijing. The name "Xiangshui Lake" does not come from a large body of water, but rather from the source of the spring where water gushes out forcefully, making a thunderous sound audible from over a kilometer away. Hence, it is called "Xiangshui Lake" (Resounding Water Lake). It is the largest spring in Huairou, serving as a drinking water source for local residents and one of the sources of the Huairou Reservoir. It discharges 0.3 cubic meters per second, with a daily flow of 25,937 tons. The water is sweet and refreshing.

"Xiangshui Waterfall" has a drop of 50 meters and a width of 24 meters. Li Bai once wrote a poem praising the Lushan Waterfall, which includes the lines: "Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high / As if the Silver River fell from the blue sky." I believe the waterfall before us can rival that of Lushan. In winter, the naturally formed "Ice Curtain Cave" is even more breathtaking.

Ancient City Ruins: In ancient times, a settlement with three gates was called a city, and one with a single gate was called a fort. The ancient fortress was originally named Moshikou Fort and was the stationing place for Ming Dynasty soldiers guarding the Moshikou section of the Great Wall. It is 80 meters long from east to west and 13.5 meters wide from north to south, built with bricks and stones, and has one southern gate. The walls of the ancient fortress have collapsed, but remnants of the site remain, making it an excellent place for visitors to explore and study the lives of past ethnic groups.

The Moshikou Pass of Xiangshui Lake Great Wall was a pivotal project of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. Originally equipped with a barbican and two sets of gates, it was thus called the "Double Pass." It is a strategic border fort near the "Beijing Knot," built in the second year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1404), making it over 590 years old. Walking along the Great Wall trail, the Lianyun Cave and Totem Pavilion located halfway up the mountain add a touch of mystery to this ancient pass. On the mountain wall ahead, the three exquisitely carved characters "Lianyun Cave" (Cloud-Connecting Cave) can be seen. Inside is a golden dragon. Legend has it that this golden dragon once protected Xiangshui Lake and brought prosperity to the nearby residents, enabling them to live in peace and happiness. Therefore, people created a statue of it as a token of reverence.

Descend the Great Wall, walk through an orchard, and return to a forest path accompanied by a clear stream. Follow the stream upstream to find the source of the spring. Cup your hands and take a sip of the sweet spring water—it tastes as rich as aged liquor. The spring water splashes against rocks, occasionally sending up sprays and creating a tinkling sound, composing a symphony of nature in these mountains. Arriving at the source of Xiangshui Lake, you’ll understand why it is called the "Number One Spring of Huairou." The spring has abundant water and is an artesian spring, emerging at an elevation of 550 meters from fractures in dolomite rock. The water is crystal clear, sweet, and refreshing, classified as calcium-magnesium bicarbonate water, with a temperature of 8–11°C, making it first-class drinking water.

Transportation

Take bus 916 from Dongzhimen to the Conference Center, then transfer to the Dazhenyu shuttle bus to the scenic area. By car, take the Jing-Shun Expressway from Sanyuanqiao to Huairou, drive to the Mutianyu Roundabout, and continue west for 8 kilometers.
