Bijiu Dragon Pool

Bijiu Dragon Pool is located in Bijiu Village, Nanlu Township, Deqing County, Zhejiang Province, at the foot of Mount Mogan. It faces the famous main attractions of the Mount Mogan Scenic Area—Tashan and Guai Shi Jiao—across the mountain. The Pubi Waterfall, situated above the dragon pool, consists of three tiers with a drop of fifty feet, presenting a spectacular sight. According to the *Records of Mount Mogan*: “The Bijiu Waterfall is located in Bijiu Village at the northern foot of Mount Mogan…” The village nestles against the mountain and borders a stream, with dense bamboo groves shading the sky. Upon entering the village, the sound of springs gurgling is heard incessantly. Beyond the village, following a stone path uphill, one encounters several steep cliffs standing opposite each other, forming a narrow gorge through which the stream surges and cascades. At one turn, massive rocks are piled up, obstructing the flow and increasing its force. The water forces its way out through crevices and caves, dropping four or five feet to form a waterfall that pours into the dragon pool. At the top of the waterfall, there is a very flat rock, commonly called the Immortal Rock. Legend has it that this is where Han Zhongli and Han Xiangzi played chess, and the faint marks of a chessboard can still be discerned on the rock’s surface.
