Guanpu Pavilion on Mount Mogan

Guanpu Pavilion stands atop the eastern ridge extending from Yinzhan Mountain. By following the stone steps to the left of Sword Pool and winding your way up, you will reach this red-roofed hexagonal pavilion. From here, looking eastward, you can take in the full panoramic view of the Sword Pool Waterfall — “two green cliffs framing a rushing stream” — from top to bottom. Though it is already a hundred zhang away from the waterfall, and the mountain terrain is steep, the designers placed a viewing pavilion here to offer an unobstructed view of the entire Sword Pool Waterfall — a truly ingenious touch. No wonder visitors, even after feasting their eyes on the waterfall at Sword Pool, still feel something is missing, and continue along the winding mountain path to climb up to Guanpu Pavilion for that unforgettable view.

A poem about viewing the Sword Pool Waterfall, written by Qing Dynasty poet Chen Jingdi, goes: The sword’s aura has faded away, The cold stream flows through ancient days; Best viewed just after rainfall, Sit in the pavilion’s cool shade. Sunbeams startle tired eyes, Wind carries the distant sound; With ears so truly serene, You’ll feel deep in the mountains bound.

From the pavilion, the rushing sound of the waterfall is clearly audible — not loud, but echoing continuously through the valley. When the wind picks up, the rustling bamboo forest covering the mountain swells into a mighty roar, further amplifying the waterfall’s grandeur.
