Deqing Pujie Bridge is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Pujie Bridge (a three-span beam bridge)

Located in Lishan Village, Zhongguan Town, it was first built during the Song Dynasty. Lishan Village is said to be the hermitage of Fan Li and Xi Shi. This bridge has largely remained in its original state, with no recent signs of renovation—nor does it need any.

Hanging from the central span of the bridge is a plastic bag—the first time one has been seen suspended here. It’s believed that when a household cat dies from illness or old age, it may be placed in a burlap sack or plastic bag and hung from a willow tree by the river—a local method of cat burial—but this one has been hung from the bridge span instead.

Lishan Village: Located southwest of Zhongguan Town, Lishan Village was formed in 2001 through the administrative adjustment that merged the former Liujiao Village and Yangwan Village. To the east, it connects to the ancient canal and neighbors Maoshan Village; to the south, it borders Mingxing Village in Qianyuan Town; to the west, it adjoins Chengtou Village; and to the north, it meets Geshan Village. The village covers an area of 5.57 square kilometers, with 3,793 mu of arable land, 730 mu of mulberry fields, 630 mu of fish ponds, and 180 mu of woodland. It has 24 villager groups, a total of 729 households, and a population of 2,788 people, including 77 Party members—of whom 2 are probationary.
