Moganshan is a scenic and renowned mountain in the Jiangnan region, boasting unique natural landscape resources. It currently preserves over 250 villas of various styles. The Moganshan Villa Cluster, integrated with its natural surroundings, presents a distinctive charm where human culture and nature complement each other. Early villas on Moganshan were built by people from Britain, the United States, France, Germany, and Russia, imitating various architectural styles and featuring a wide range of designs. Later, the area saw a prevalence of villas owned by high-ranking Nationalist officials and wealthy industrialists, thus becoming closely associated with many significant events in modern Chinese history. Moganshan serves as a microcosm of the development of villa architecture in modern China, encompassing structures from various historical periods and architectural schools, demonstrating considerable concentration and representativeness. Due to its close ties with important figures and events in modern Chinese history, it has also become an important historical site for studying China’s recent past.
