Yu Pingbo Memorial Hall

The Yu Pingbo Memorial Hall is located in Qianyuan Town, Deqing County. The memorial hall fully showcases Yu Pingbo’s academic achievements and contributions throughout his life through a large number of artifacts and textual explanations.

The exhibition space of the Yu Pingbo Memorial Hall covers an area of approximately 200 square meters, and the exhibits are divided into seven sections: Early Family Education; Involvement in the New Literature Movement; Classical Poetry; Research on "Dream of the Red Chamber"; Patriotic Intellectuals; Excellence Through Diligence; and Hometown Sentiment.

A bronze statue of Yu Pingbo is placed at the mountaintop of Dajia Mountain Park, adjacent to the memorial hall. Dajia Mountain (also known as Shiting Mountain) features a solemn and serene bronze statue of Yu Pingbo, created by a professor from the China Academy of Art. His ashes are laid beneath the base of the statue, which embodies the noble demeanor of this eminent scholar.

Yu Pingbo (1900.1.8–1990.10.15)

Originally named Yu Mingheng, with the courtesy name Pingbo, he also used the pen names Pingchu and Guhuai Jushi. He was a native of Deqing, Zhejiang. A classical literature researcher, Redology expert, modern writer, and poet.

Born in 1900 in Suzhou, he was the grandson of the prominent late Qing scholar Yu Yue. At the age of 9, he attended a private school. In 1911, he went to Shanghai to study English and mathematics. In 1915, he entered Pingjiang Middle School in Suzhou and was admitted to the Department of Literature at Peking University in the same year. It is a provincial-level sanitary town, a provincial-level education-strong town, and a municipal-level well-off town. It was ranked among the top ten towns in Huzhou City in 2003.
