Juehai Temple is located at the north end of Yingsheng Bridge on Zhongshan Street in Xincheng Town, Deqing County. It was first built in the 10th year of the Yuanhe era during the Tang Dynasty (815), originally named Xingshan Temple. It was destroyed during the reign of Emperor Wuzong of Tang and rebuilt in the 5th year of the Dazhong era (851). In the 2nd year of the Zhiping era of the Song Dynasty (1065), it was renamed to its current name. The Song Dynasty poet Huang Tingjian wrote a poem about Juehai Temple: “Incense smoke wafts thick, water-soaked rhinoceros; Trees encircle the meditation bed, bamboos line the stream… A stretch of autumn cicadas longs for tall willows. The sunset lies west of the bamboo shade.” The temple was destroyed and rebuilt multiple times until its renovation in the 24th year of the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty (1898). Today, it still retains a three-bay mountain gate with a single-eave hip-and-gable roof, a three-bay Vajra Hall with a double-eave hip-and-gable roof, and a five-bay Guanyin Hall with a flush gable roof. Inside the temple, there is a Lingquan Pool spanned by a single-arch stone bridge. The entire temple complex covers an area of 3,800 square meters. It was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site in 1982.
