Tianhua Cave Scenic Area

The Tianhua Cave Scenic Area is located north of the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall in Huairou County, 28 kilometers from Huairou County and 80 kilometers from Beijing. It is a tourist destination that combines cultural and natural landscapes, covering a total area of 12 square kilometers. During the rainy season, underground river water rises and overflows from the mountains, forming spectacular waterfalls of various sizes. Within the Julong Pass Natural Scenic Area, mountains and water complement each other, with murmuring streams flowing through.

From spring to autumn, wildflowers blanket the hillsides, and fresh fruits are available year-round. Notable scenic spots include Divine Plot Thinking of Heaven (a rock), Sisters’ Deep Bond (a pine tree), Camel Peak Standing Tall (a mountain peak), and White Sheep Ascending the Mountain (a hill). The Primitive Tribe Amusement Park features hunting and sightseeing zones where visitors can explore ancient rock paintings, primitive reliefs, wood carvings, stacked stone formations, as well as performances by lifelike animal replicas. Over 95% of the Primitive Tribe Amusement Park is covered with chestnut trees, and it hosts an annual Chestnut Festival from September to October.

Tianhua Cave is a naturally formed limestone karst cave with an underground river at its base. According to surveys by China’s national geological and mineral authorities, the cave covers a total area of more than 2,400 square meters, with an additional water chamber spanning 3,000 square meters. On the cave walls that have been developed for tourism, ink inscriptions from the Ming Dynasty's Wanli era and the 41st year of the Qing Dynasty’s Kangxi reign have been discovered. The Hundred Filial Piety Garden showcases exemplary stories of filial devotion that have been passed down for thousands of years, based on legends of dutiful children.
