The cliff inscriptions in Beigou Village, Shayu Township, located in the northern mountain valley of Beigou Village, Shayu Township, Huairou (20 kilometers northwest of the county town), at the border between Beigou Village and Zhuanghu Village, are all in intaglio, regular script, totaling nine sites. They are spread along a mountain valley approximately three kilometers in length, carved from the valley entrance northward in sequence: 1—“警心慎辔” (Beware the Heart, Restrain the Reins), a horizontal inscription, with the small vertical characters “辛… (Xīn…)” on the right; 2—“观澜” (Gaze at the Waves), two large vertical characters, with the small characters “怀野 (Huái Yě)” to the left; 3—“秦皇旧址” (Former Site of the First Emperor), a horizontal inscription, with the four small characters “李逢时书 (Written by Li Fengshi)” below; 4—“秦皇旧址” (Former Site of the First Emperor), a vertical inscription; 5—“亟关逊(弥?)险” (The Pass is Extremely (or Deeply?) Perilous), a vertical inscription; 6—“名关” (Famed Pass), a vertical inscription, with the small characters “少山 (Shǎo Shān)” to the left; 7—“无限华夷” (Boundless Harmony Among Peoples), a vertical inscription, with the small characters “怀野 (Huái Yě)” to the left; 8—“苍岩翠柏” (Gray Cliffs and Emerald Cypresses), a horizontal inscription, with the small vertical characters “万历壬寅春 (Spring, Year of Renyin, Wanli Era)” on the right, and the small vertical characters “李逢时书 (Written by Li Fengshi)” at the lower left; 9—“如堆” (Like a Heap), signed “少山 (Shǎo Shān)”. The first site is no longer extant, but the rest are well-preserved. This area was originally known as “擦石口堡 (Cashi Kou Fort)” and “擦石口关 (Cashi Kou Pass)”. The pass has now collapsed and is abandoned. These cliff inscriptions are believed to have been inscribed during the Ming Dynasty when officials inspected the frontier passes multiple times.
